Ernst Artur Gnauck’s sudden death in 1955 once again put the bakery in jeopardy. With a widow escape clause, Antonie Gnauck, was able to hold on to the bakery until her son had finished his apprenticeship. April 1st 1956 Artur Eberhard Gnauck took over the bakery as one of the youngest master bakers in the Dresden area. Just married to Irmgard Stark that same year.

1958 the bakery was almost overcome by a flood and destroyed electrical equipment and rendered all perishables useless. The insurance was not sufficient to bring the business back on its feet. When they checked with the city for assistance the mayor, Eisold, told them to start a socialist cooperative in order to receive help. With the help of others like electricians and inn keepers the bread was soon baking once more. As mentioned earlier the good old oven was replaced in 1965 with a more modern oven.
